Providing Scholarships, Technology, and Internet Access with an AT&T $10,000 Contribution

AT&T is contributing $10,000 to Madam President Camp, a nonresidential day camp where girls learn to be leaders in their communities. This contribution will be used for scholarships, internet access and technology to provide opportunities for girls in Wyandotte and Johnson counties in Kansas, who otherwise would not have been able to participate in the leadership camp. The program began on the Missouri side and this contribution will expand it to Wyandotte and Johnson counties.

Madam President Camp (www.madampresidentcamp.org) is for girls ages 10-13, and  helps them gain confidence, develop leadership skills, and learn about government in an interactive experience with a mentor.  The Madam President Camp addresses the gender gap that exists in leadership and policymaking by intervening in the important developmental years for adolescent girls.

"The impact that Madam President Camp has on young women is unmistakable,” said Carol Marinovich, former Kansas City Mayor and CEO of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County.  “While it is important to learn basic leadership skills, it is equally vital to have the self-confidence to use those skills to chase your dreams. This organization provides the opportunity for girls to grow both skill sets.”

“It is so important for young girls to know their worth and to know that they are capable of doing anything they set their minds to,” said Mary Birch, former Overland Park Chamber of Commerce President. “Madam President Camp provides an outstanding mentoring aspect throughout the duration of camp that really helps build self- confidence in these young girls.”

"We are proud to support Madam President Camp’s innovative approach to working with young women on leadership skills, self-confidence building and mentoring," said Molly Kocour Boyle, President of AT&T Kansas. "Our company has a long history of supporting education and mentoring programs. Our partnership with Madam President Camp allows us to bring these passions together in a unique and powerful way."
