MPC Welcomes New board members

We are thrilled to announce our new board members.

Dana Abraham

Dana has extensive experience as a community civic leader, moving to Kansas City in 1990. Her background is in banking and finance and was the former President, Personal Banking and Private Wealth Management at UMB.  He civic engagement work includes positions with REACH Health, United We, American Heart Association, Kansas City Repertory Theatre, and United Way. She brings a strong network as a member of Women Who Mean Business.

“I wanted to  join the MPC board because of my passion for youth and a recognition that there continues to be a need for strong female voices.”

Joan Ruff

Joan is an attorney with an accomplished career including executive positions with Zurich North American, H&R Block, Towers Perin and Mercer. Joan was the former Chair of the National AARP Board and is currently the Chair of the United We Board.

“I am very interested in this opportunity to advance women’s equality beginning with youth. As my experience as Chair of United We, she can support efforts to reach girls and women across the continuum.”

Kate Allen

Kate is a member of the MPC Advisory Board and is currently Vice President of Advancement and Government Affairs at Johnson County Community College. Previously, she was the Executive Director for Blue Valley Educational Foundation and Planned Giving Manager at Children’s Mercy. Her current and former roles contribute to an extensive network.

Kate enjoys sports, specifically as a basketball coach for girls in 5th – 9th grade, where she sees first-hand the shift of young women in their middle school. Additionally, as a mother to three young children, the youngest a girl, she has a strong commitment to youth.

“I’m so excited to work with the campers and board members at Madam President Camp. We have great things happening for our future.”

Carlton Abner 

Carlton currently serves as Associate Provost of Campus Health and Wellness at Kansas City University. He is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Kansas Air National Guard and is a nurse by background. He has his Doctorate in Nursing. Carlton brings knowledge in education through his work at Cerner and KCU.

Carlton’s interest in Madam President Camp is as an ally for women.

“I was raised by a single mother so I’ve experienced the direct impact of strong female leadership. And this past summer I saw how the camps support our mission with the incredible opportunity to be a guest speaker at many of the camps.”
